I have been thinking about the concept of an aquarium that spans the entire length of my bookshelf for months. I finally pulled the trigger and tore down the two year old small Walstad bowls which lived in the space. I have the ingredients on hand and I’m ready to build. Let’s get into it.

There are, admittedly, issues with putting an aquarium into an Ikea bookshelf:

• The weight (around 50 pounds)
• The clearance of the shelf above
• There’s no access to the back
• It’ll be difficult to move if I ever need to
• The aquarium has strange dimensions and would not be suitable for some kinds of animals

I have plans to meet these issues and we’ll see as this all unfurls how that goes.
